Police in Mmabatho in the North West have arrested a 31-year-old man for allegedly beating his mother to death.

Police spokesperson Major Pelonomi Makau said the incident happened in the early hours of Sunday at Ratloung village in Mahikeng.
“It is alleged that in the morning of the incident, the suspect arrived home with his girlfriend and demanded food from his 63-year old mother,” Makau said. “As there was no food the mother could offer, the suspect allegedly assaulted her to death.
“Police were informed and the suspect was arrested at his home. Police investigations continue.”
The suspect is due to appear in the Mahikeng Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
