Man arrested for Soweto girl kidnapping
A spurned lover was arrested for allegedly kidnapping his ex-girlfriend's four-year-old child, Gauteng police said on Monday.
He and the child were traced on Sunday evening to Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg, and the girl appears to be in good health, Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said.
The man called the child's mother from Soweto on Saturday night and threatened to run away with her daughter if she did not come back to him, Makhubela explained.
At the time he was at a house in Gaobatlelwe street, Orlando East, with the girl and several other people.
"She says it's an ex-boyfriend. She did not want to come back to him.
He grabbed the child from the people in the house and ran away."
The man would appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court soon.
