"We can confirm that last night [Wednesday] members of the Garsfontein tracing unit, the metro and SA Police Service dog units, with the assistance of a security company proceeded to an address in Bronkhorstspruit where the man was arrested," Warrant Officer Dave Miller said.

He confirmed reports that the man was her ex-fiancé.

He would likely appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court within 48 hours.

Miller said earlier that the woman was shot at her place of work in Garsfontein on Wednesday.

"He entered the work premises and she came downstairs to the reception area. When she was down the stairs he produced a firearm and fired several shots, fatally wounding her."

CCTV footage

The man jumped onto a motorbike and raced away from the scene.

Miller said there was CCTV footage which was handed over to police.

According to the Pretoria East Rekord, the woman was a 33-year-old administrative clerk at Cura Health Insurance.

She apparently kicked the man out of their apartment two weeks ago when he allegedly started to abuse her.
