Police have arrested a man for manufacturing fraudulent identity documents in his apartment.
The suspect was arrested on Thursday in the Johannesburg CBD.
Gauteng police commissioner Elias Mawela said the man, who is a Zimbabwean national, also manufactured various other documents.
“We were walking in the CBD to do foot patrol, so while walking a good citizen tipped the police officers who were walking on the street to say up there in that flat there is a Zimbabwean national who is manufacturing travel documents.
“He had opened his one-stop shop manufacturing whatever document you can think of. Drivers licence, smart card IDs, certificates, competence certificates for firearms. So our officers went there and they found this person hard at work busy manufacturing these documents and they arrested him.”
