Man arrested for stealing PPE at Eastern Cape hospital
Updated | By Karabo Tebele
An Eastern Cape man has been arrested in connection with the theft of eight boxes of personal protective equipment at Frontier hospital in Queenstown.
The Eastern Cape Health Department says the man, who works at the hospital, was caught red-handed on Saturday.
The boxes contained gloves, according to the department.
Spokesperson for the provincial Health Department Sizwe Kupelo says stealing from a hospital is equivalent to murder.
“The man was apprehended by the security guards and handed him over to the police following the theft of personal protective equipment from the hospital.
“We condemn the act. The alleged incident is tantamount to murder as these are very essential tools to be used by all frontline workers at the hospital. We commend the swift action by security guards, and we hope that justice will take its course.”
