Man in court for Karabo Mokoena murder
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
A 27-year-old man will appear in in the Johannesburg Magistrates court on Friday for the murder of 22-year-old Karabo Mokoena.
Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says Mokoena was first reported missing on the 28th of April.
“She was reported missing on the 28th April in Diepkloof, Soweto. On the 29th we discovered a body of a woman that was badly burnt at a veld in Lyndhurst and we started our investigation.” he says.
Masondo says the investigation led to the arrest of a man alleged to be Mokoena’s boyfriend.
“We questioned a lot of people, including the family, and it led to his arrest.”
The story has once again raised eyebrows around the high levels of domestic abuse and the marginalisation of women, and in particular black women, in South Africa.
The brutal slaughtering of women is not only a phenomenon unique to SA. Namibia can attest to this tragic fact. 😢 #patrickwisani #RIPKarabo

As a female in South Africa, I am scared for my life. Leaving your home is like going into a war zone 😣 #RIPKarabo
