Man in court for shooting ANC official

A 24-year-old man is expected to appear in the Beaufort West Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with the shooting of ANC Central Karoo regional secretary, Windy Plaatjies.
The man allegedly shot Plaatjies in the shoulder at about 4.30am when he attempted to break up a fight at a tavern in Kwa-Mandlenkosi township, according to police spokesman Captain Malcolm Pojie.
The man would be charged with attempted murder. The ANC in the Western Cape condemned the shooting.
“At this stage there is no reason to believe the shooting is politically motivated,” provincial secretary Faiez Jacobs said.
“We await more information from investigating officers. We are grateful that the shooting was not fatal and Windy’s condition is stable. Anyone with more information is urged to approach the police,” Jacobs said.
