Man in custody for possession of explosives

A 31-year-old suspect has been remanded in custody after being arrested in the north of Tshwane in possession of explosives.

The suspect appeared in the Temba Magistrates’ Court in Hammanskraal on Wednesday.
Hawks’ spokesperson Ndivhuwo Mulamu says the 31-year old man was arrested during a stop-and-search.
“It is alleged that the Cross Boarder Response Team at the Carousel Toll Plaza stopped a minibus taxi travelling to Limpopo (Tuesday).
Upon authorities’ request for the driver including his passengers to vacate the taxi, one of the passengers allegedly jumped out of the taxi and fled while shooting at the police. Police searched the taxi and one of the passengers was found with detonators inside his luggage,” says Mulamu.
Gauteng Hawks responded swiftly to the crime scene , where the suspect was arrested.
Investigations revealed that the accused, Talent Zangeni (31) was travelling from Daveyton to Vuwani in Limpopo.
“He was immediately arrested and charged with illegal possession of explosives. He was remanded in custody pending the investigation.”
The case has been postponed to Wednesday, 06 October.
