The fire broke out on Friday morning.

It comes less than a day after about 30 shacks were completely destroyed during a fire in Kya Sands, leaving about 60 people without a roof over their heads.

Joburg emergency services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi says firefighters were dispatched to the Denver informal settlement on Friday morning.

On arrival, they found multiple shacks engulfed in flames.

Mulaudzi says they began evacuating residents while dousing the flames.

"During a search and rescue operation, firefighters recovered a body of a 30-year-old man. He succumbed to smoke inhalation, and he was confirmed dead on the scene. No other injuries were reported during this fire incident and about 10 shacks, together with a motor vehicle, were completely destroyed.

“The cause of the fire incident is still a subject of investigations,” said Mulaudzi.

Residents are urged to continue to exercise caution when using heating devices which might cause fire incidents at home not to leave them unattended while in use.
