A man drowned in a tidal pool at Camps Bay, in Cape Town, said the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI).
His girlfriend told rescuers he disappeared under the water while swimming, said NSRI spokesman Craig Lambinon.
His body was found by divers, he said.
A fisherman was also declared dead near St Francis Bay, in the Eastern Cape, he said.
Rescue workers were sent to a fishing boat after being told a crew member had collapsed and was unconscious.
They tried to resuscitate him, then took him to shore, where paramedics and an ambulance were on standby. However, he was later declared dead.
In KwaZulu-Natal, four men had to be rescued when their boat capsized at the south breakwater harbour entrance to the Durban port, said Lambinon.
