A man has drowned in Port Edward, KwaZulu-Natal, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said on Sunday.

A man has drowned in Port Edward, KwaZulu-Natal, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said on Sunday.
The NSRI were notified by lifeguards on Main Beach of a 47-year-old man being swept out to sea by rip-currents around 11.30am on Saturday, said spokesman Craig Lambinon.
The man had been rescued by lifeguards when the NSRI arrived on the scene, with CPR undertaken upon the man.
"Netcare 911 paramedics and Medivac paramedics continued with advanced life support CPR on their arrival but after all CPR efforts were exhausted... the man, from Port Shepstone, was declared deceased," said Lambinon.
"The body of the deceased man has been handed into the care of police and the forensic pathology services, and police have opened an inquest docket."
The family of the man were receiving support from police.
