A man has been arrested in Doornkop, Soweto, in connection with the kidnapping, rape and attempted murder of a woman more than two months ago, Gauteng police said on Saturday.
On August 5, a 34-year-old woman was kidnapped then repeatedly raped in Zondi, Soweto, Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said.
She was then severely assaulted.
On Friday police received information, which led them to search a house in Doornkop where they found a 28-year-old man.
He was arrested and would appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Monday.
"We found that he was also wanted for other kidnapping and rape cases [involving] other women and children... This is a breakthrough," Makhubela said.
He appealed to other women who had faced similar ordeals to come forward, as police wanted to have an identity parade as part of investigations into similar unsolved crimes.
