A Lichtenburg man is set to appear in court on Monday after he allegedly set his shack alight, killing his baby, North West police said on Sunday.
The 35-year-old apparently got into a fight with his pregnant girlfriend in Blydeville on Saturday and she ran from their shack to call for help, said police spokesperson Kelebogile Moleko.
The boyfriend burned their shack with their five-month-old baby inside. The baby was burnt to death and it was later discovered that the dog was also inside the shack, she said.
The police arrested the man at the scene in the early hours of Saturday morning. He was expected to appear in the Lichtenburg Magistrates Court on charges of murder, arson, and malicious damage to property.
