A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Heidelberg Magistrate's Court for raping his step-daughter, Gauteng police said on Wednesday.
The 53-year-old was found guilty of four counts of rape and assault to do grievous bodily harm, Captain Thivhulawi Tshilate said.
He was declared unfit to possess a firearm for the rest of his life.
The man raped the girl when she was 10 while they were living in Nigel in 2007. They moved to Spaarwater Plots North when she was 13, in 2010, and he again raped her. He raped her repeatedly in 2011 and 2012, and she fell pregnant. On September 25, 2013, he severely assaulted her for no apparent reason, Tshilate said.
The step-daughter reported him to police, and he was arrested. He was convicted and sentenced on Tuesday.
