Man in Lydenburg court for murder
Updated | By ANA
A 34-year old man was expected to appear in the Lydenburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday after he allegedly killed his ex-girlfriend’s mother and threatened that “she is next”.
The man was arrested shortly after the attack at the Badfontein Farm outside Lydenburg on Wednesday morning.
At the time, police spokesman Selvy Mohlala said: “Information at police disposal reveals that the suspect was allegedly served with a protection order, which was obtained by his ex-girlfriend against him last week.”
“While the 51-year-old victim, the mother of his girlfriend, was on her way to work, the suspect attacked, strangled and fatally beat her with a pick handle.”
The suspect then allegedly took the victim’s cellphone, called his ex-girlfriend, and told her that her mother was dead and that she was next.
He was arrested while hitch-hiking to Lydenburg after police launched a manhunt.
