Man sets girlfriend alight outside Benoni creche
Gauteng police are investigating a case of attempted murder after a 27-year-old woman was set alight outside a Benoni creche on Monday morning.
Provincial police spokesperson Noxolo Kweza says a 40-year-old suspect, who was also injured during the incident, was taken to hospital where he is under police guard.
The victim and suspect are believed to be involved in a romantic relationship.
“An additional charge of malicious damage to property will be added after the woman's car was burnt beyond damage,” says Kweza.
A third person sustained injuries.
“The woman who was with a friend, both sustained burn injuries. They were rushed to hospital as well,” Kweza adds.
The motive for the attack is under investigation.
