North West police are investigating the death of a man who was shot and killed at the ATKV Buffelspoort resort outside Rustenburg.
The man was killed in an apparent robbery early on Thursday morning.
It is understood that a family of six was sleeping when three armed suspects stormed into a chalet demanding valuables.
One of the family members allegedly tried to protect the family during a confrontation and was shot dead.
Police spokesperson Adel Adele Myburgh said no arrests have been made.
“I can confirm that Marikana police are investigating a case of murder and house robbery. During the confrontation, a 68-year-old Johannes Nicholas Brits was shot and unfortunately passed away on the scene. Cell phone and jewelry were taken from the deceased’s wife.”
ATKV's Reinard du Plessis says they will step up security.
“We are working with the police, our own security, and community policing forum to further improve the security that we have, and we will have to see how we strengthen the security further.
“We are providing all the necessary support to the victim’s family, the other guests, and the resort staff who are all traumatised. This is something you don’t expect to happen at your business.”
