A 30-year-old man was shot dead by police in Thokoza on the East Rand on Friday, Gauteng police said.

Captain Mega Ndobe said the man was wanted in connection with the death of a 34-year-old woman, who was shot dead on Thursday.
"The suspect was traced to a hostel in Thokoza. He was spotted carrying two firearms... and he fired shots at the police."
A shoot-out ensued.
"During the shooting [the man] was shot and killed."
Ndobe said two firearms were recovered, one licensed and the other with its serial number filed off.
A case of murder, attempted murder, and an inquest had been opened, he said.
