The Commission for Gender Equality is now speaking on behalf of Christine Wiro.

Wiro quit her job after Manana allegedly pushed her down the stairs at his Fourways residence.

The domestic worker initially reported the matter to the Douglasdale Police Station but has since withdrawn the complaint amid claims that she fears for her life.

An audio recording in which Manana is heard asking Wiro to drop the matter and offers her "100K" as "consolation" has surfaced, but he claims that the former domestic worker was trying to extort money from him.

He has since laid charges of perjury against Wiro.

"She has been placed in a place of safety because she was afraid for her life. Most people knew where she stays and the person that she reported the allegation of assault against," the commission's Javu Baloyi says.

Baloyi says Wiro will help with investigation into Manana, despite the fact that she decided to withdraw the charges.

"She had met with provincial officers to go over her statement and wanted to ascertain whatever she has written was the true depiction of what she knows and what happened, so they can begin their process of investigating," he says.

Baloyi says the argument between Manana and Wiro started when she opened the door for a guest without his permission.

"A verbal argument started, where she was pushed. She had no choice but to leave the house because she says she could not take it anymore because it was not the first time.”
