Mandoza Memorial: How Nkalakatha was created
Updated | By Slindelo Masikane
Friends, family and relatives gathered at the Ellis Park Arena in Johannesburg on Wednesday to say farewell to kwaito star Mandoza.
In attendance was music producer and friend Gabi le Roux, who shared his memory of how the hit song 'Nkalakatha' was created.
Le Roux said he remembered Mandoza running up to him when you heard the first few notes of the song.
Meanwhile, manager and friend Vaughn Eaton said Mandoza, whose real name was Mduduzi Tshabalala, touched his heart and taught him many lessons during their time together.
Eaton described Mandoza as a legend who enjoyed spending time with ordinary people.
"Legends are made and there are very few of them who walk this earth. Things that I remember...we'd go to big events. He wasn't interested so much in meeting the promoter. He would be more interested in meeting the kitchen staff, he'd be interested in meeting the people and he'll have long discussions with them," Eaton said.
