The parties were in the High Court in Johannesburg on Tuesday, but the matter was postponed for the judge to get more affidavits.

The application is being pursued by the South African Cabin Crew Association (SACCA), the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA), and the Mango Pilots' Association (MPA).

The parties have also asked the court to appoint Ralph Lutchman as the business rescue practitioner.

They claim that without taking this step, Mango would be liquidated due to cash-flow challenges.

SACCA President Zazi Nsibanyoni-Mugambi says both parties want the business rescue.

However, Mango does not want Lutchman to be appointed.

She says the unions are happy to bring their own practitioners and Mango to appoint its own so they can work together.

"This is suspicious because we are very willing to collaborate so that the business rescue practitioners can work speedily to create a restructuring plan for Mango. They do not want to collaborate with us.

"We have had extremely bad experiences working with shareholder practitioners in particular because they are the ultimate shareholder in terms of the SAA board. What we want at the end is for Mango to be restructured, to get back into the sky, they are a good airline and deserve a fair share.

She says the South African Airways business rescue process took a long time and they do not want the same thing at Mango.

"Mango needs to keep the many many jobs that can possibly be lost if it no longer exists.”
