Manhunt launched after murder of on-duty police officer

Police have launched a manhunt after an on-duty police officer was gunned down by a group of suspects in Sandton on Thursday morning.
Sergeant David Tsedu was driving along Katherine street in Sandown when he was gunned down by the group of suspects.
“The suspects are alleged to have robbed the member of his service pistol and other items before fleeing the scene in a getaway vehicle,” says police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe.

The police member succumbed to his injuries while he was being transported to hospital.
National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), General Khehla John Sitole has directed the Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela to implement the 72-hour activation plan in search of the suspects.
“The SAPS is appealing to witnesses and eye witnesses to come forward and assist in investigations,” adds Mathe.
