Manhunt launched for escaped prisoners

Police have launched a manhunt for a group of 20 awaiting trial prisoners who escaped en route to "Sun City" prison in Johannesburg.
The group of suspects were on their way back from the Johannesburg Magistrates Court.
Police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini says one of the suspects had previously been convicted for armed robbery.

"The prisoners escaped after the truck they were travelling in was ambushed at Pat Mbatha Road near Southgate train by a group of men armed with rifles.
"A truck door lock was broken before the prisoners escaped," says Dlamini.
Dlamini says the suspects were arrested for various crimes.
"The crimes include armed robbery, housebreaking, theft and possession of drugs."
None of the suspects have been re-arrested.
