Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Police in Mpumalanga have launched a massive search following the killing of Luitenant Colonel Simon Maseko in Witbank on Tuesday night.
According to police spokesperson Vishnu Naidoo, Maseko was driving his Mercedes Benz into his driveway when two armed men approached the vehicle and opened fire, killing the officer instantly.
The suspects fled the scene without taking anything.

"It doesn't appear as if anything has been taken from him (Maseko) which means the motive for his killing is unclear at this stage.
"Police Commissioner General Khehla Sitole has instructed a 72-hour activation plan to be mobilised," says Naidoo.
Naidoo explains that the 72-hour activation plan entails the mobilisation of critical resources of the police force, including crime intelligence, forensic experts and investigators from the police force and the Hawks.
"At this stage, we can only say for now that two suspects are being sought for the killing of Colonel Maseko."
