Mantashe: Leadership will not be discussed
Updated | By Morne JK
African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General Gwede Mantashe says leadership will not be discussed at the party's national policy conference.
Manthashe says the reason why the policy conference is scheduled six months before the party's elective conference, is to allow delegates to focus on issues of policy.
"The reality of the matter is that we want to force ourselves to talk policy so that comes December we can focus on the elections," he says.
Mantashe says ANC branch members have an important role to play in the formulation of policy.
"Nobody has a monopoly of ideas and solutions. Delegates have all the ideas and they will tell us what the weaknesses are at branch level."
President of trade union federation Cosatu, Sdumo Dlamini, says the importance of the conference to the future of the country cannot be understated.
"We are here to influence the process of decisions at the conference that will take South Africa forward, policy wise," he says.
