Mantoa Malema files defamation suit against Mamabolo
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
Mantoa Malema, the wife of Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) leader Julius Malema, has filed a defamation suit against African National Congress (ANC) MP Boy Mamabolo.
She is demanding R1 million after Mamabolo alleged that she is being abused by her husband.
Mantoa Malema’s legal representation served notice to Mamabolo over comments he made to the Sowetan on February 17.
During Thursday’s State of the Nation Address, as the EFF were demanding that FW De Klerk leave the Nation Assembly, Mamabolo stood up on a point of order and said the House was being abused in the same manner as Malema’s wife.

At the time, Malema did not respond to the allegations.
But on Tuesday debate on President Ramaphosa’s address, the allegations were repeated as MPs traded insults and accused each other of abuse.
Mamabolo has since published a letter on his Twitter profile in which Julius Malema also seeks a retraction of his “vexatious, misplaced, spurious and untrue" allegations by Wednesday or face a R1 million lawsuit of defamation”.

Malema has denied the allegations, saying he never laid a hand on any woman.
"I've never - not once. Not my ex, not my wife, not anything, I've never laid a hand on my wife," Malema told the National Assembly on Tuesday.
The firebrand MP’s wife is now also demanding that Mamabolo retract his statement by end of business on Wednesday.
“Our client is disgusted by Gender Based Violence and the rate in which more and more women are abused in South Africa. Should the accusations levelled against our client and her husband have any merit whatsoever, our client would
have attended to the nearest police station to report same. Our client does not require you to be her voice.
“As you may, or may not, be aware, our client has small children, the oldest being 13 years old. Your false accusations have now cast a dark cloud over the entire family. These children now need to attend schooling and be mocked and ridiculed due to the false accusations levelled against their parents. Your false accusations have caused grave harm and damage to the family."
