Mapaila: The ANC needs the SACP and Cosatu
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The South African Communist Party's Second Secretary General, Solly Mapaila, says the African National Congress (ANC) will be no better than the DA, without its alliance partners.
"What will remain of the ANC, will be a group of this so called rich people or so called professionals who are confused about the class they belong to", says Mapaila.
Mapaila was addressing the Natioanal Union of Mineworkers' Education and Training Summit in Midrand today.
Mapaila says it has been almost a month since Cosatu and the SACP have called on President Zuma to step down, yet no engagement has taken place between the SACP and the ANC, or the ANC and Cosatu.
"Do you want to know why this is so, it's because there's indignation of those who are affected to the alliance leadership, they think they own the alliance and the ANC", says Mapaila.
"We must reject that, but we must develop a programme to make sure the ANC complies with the alliance's decision'''.
"The ANC is not owned by the individual, it's a people's movement", adds Mapaila.
"This decision we have taken with (Cosatu) calling on President Jacob Zuma to step down, isn't a simple decision," he says.
