Mapisa-Nqakula appeared in the High Court in Pretoria on Monday.

She is facing 12 counts of corruption and one count of money laundering.

Well-known defence industry businesswoman Nombasa Ntsondwa-Ndhlovu, the sole director of the logistics company Umkhombe Marine, made the allegations against Mapisa-Nqakula.

The company did business with the South African National Defence Force, with Ntsondwa-Ndhlovu claiming she paid bribes totalling some R2 million to Mapisa-Nqakula.

Spokesperson for the NPA’s Investigating Directorate Against Corruption, Henry Mamothame, said the postponement will allow Mapisa-Nqakula’s attorneys to consult with her on the docket that the state has provided.

“Her attorney indicated that they may file representations with the Office of the National Director of Public Prosecutions pending the outcome of the consultation process,” said Mamothame.

Mapisa-Nqakula’s R50,000 bail was extended until her next court appearance.
