Mapleton Pumping Station leak affects Tshwane taps
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
Emergency repairs are underway at Rand Water’s Mapleton Booster Pumping Station after a leak was detected on the B8 pipeline.
The leak and repairs have resulted in a reduction of Mapleton’s pumping to 66% and this is affecting the water supply in the City of Tshwane.
Acting Divisional Head of Strategic Communication for Tshwane, Lindela Mashigo, says the isolation and scouring started on Sunday afternoon.
"Both Rand Water’s Vlakfontein and Bronberg reservoirs, which supply water to Tshwane, are in a state of depletion."
Some areas in Tshwane are therefore likely to experience low water pressure to no supply during the repairs.
The system may take up to two weeks to recover after the completion of repairs.
Several reservoirs in the city are affected, including the Garsfontein Reservoir, Carina Street Reservoir and Gastonbury Reservoir, Six Fountain Estate and Silver Willows to name a few.
Meanwhile, Rand Water has canceled planned maintenance work, which was scheduled for Friday to carry out a switchgear repair work at the Mapleton Booster Pumping Station had been canceled.
