Convicted rapist and robber Thokozani Jerome Mkhungo, 35, has been sentenced in the Pietermaritzburg High Court to two life imprisonment terms and 69 years in jail, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Saturday.

According to the police's Lt-Col Thulani Zwane, Mkhungo was arrested for rape and robbery cases that he committed in Margate.
Mkhungo targetted houses with only female occupants. He would break in, rape the victim, and rob her. He was tried and sentenced for cases he committed between 2010 and 2014.
“The accused was sentenced to two [terms of] life imprisonment for two cases of rape, nine years for housebreaking with intent to rape, and a total of 60 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances. All the sentences will run concurrently.
“The diligence of [the] Ugu family violence, child protection, and sexual violence unit investigating officers led to the successful prosecution of the accused. He will spend the rest of his life in prison where he belongs,” Zwane said.
