Maroleng seeks R12m, delinquency against SABC board

Former SABC Chief Operations Officer (COO) Chris Maroleng has filed a high court application to declare the organisation's board delinquent for following “improper processes” in his dismissal.

City Press reported on Sunday that Maroleng is seeking R12 million from the public broadcaster for the unlawful termination of his contract.

Maroleng was appointed COO of SABC in 2018 after the controversial reign of his predecessor, Hlaudi Motsoeneng.
He was dismissed in April 2019 when an internal disciplinary hearing found him guilty of misconduct.
Maroleng's attorney MacGregor Kufa says a defamation lawsuit has also been filed with the court against the board.
"The board needs to vacate their places because they are complicit in the issue given the fact that they were not aware of what was happening and should have said that they cannot proceed the dismissal of Maroleng before the requisite fact and information is in their hands."
"We are quite confident with Mr Maroleng's case because remember there are some constitutional issues at play here and Section 22 of the constitution has been violated because of the manner in which they have dismissed him."
The former SABC boss is also involved in an ongoing Labour Court challenge to his abrupt dismissal.
