Masemola to appoint crime intelligence commissioner
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola will this week appoint an acting Crime Intelligence Commissioner.

This comes after explosive allegations by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi during a media briefing in Durban on Sunday.
Mkhwanazi made serious claims of political interference in some of the high-profile criminal cases currently underway.
He questioned Police Minister Senzo Mchunu's role in dissolving the Task Team on Political Murders, saying it was making great strides in the battle against organised crime.
Mkhwanazi said in March, Deputy National Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya, apparently acting on instructions from the minister, took control of 121 case dockets linked to political killings.
While the latest developments and allegations are causing ripples and shock waves through policing circles, National Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says normal day-to-day policing operations are continuing.
"The General assures the nation that daily crime combatting operations and normal day-to-day policing at stations and other SAPS service points continues.
"The mandate and work of the police which is to prevent, combat and investigate crime, to maintain public order, to protect and secure the inhabitants of the Republic and their property, and to uphold and enforce the law is not affected in anyway. The men and women in blue remain hard at work at every corner of this country to serve and protect all people living in South Africa."
Mathe added that Masemola will also address other issues that are currently in the public domain.
