Mashaba introduces new Johannesburg Mayoral Committee
Updated | By Samkele Maseko
Newly elected Executive Mayor of Johannesburg Herman Mashaba says a massive task lies ahead of the city's new Mayoral Committee.
Mashaba and his committee were sworn in by Judge President Dunstan Mlambo on Friday.
Mashaba says his mayoral committee is diverse and competent, consisting of doctors, academics and activists.
He pleaded with the MMCs to put the needs of the people first, and put service delivery at the top of their agenda.
Mashaba pleaded with the people of Johannesburg to be patient with the new administration.
"We face challenges that no party can confront on its own. It is time for all of us to roll up our sleeves and get working. It is time to put our political difference and ideologies aside and work together with a shared vision for the improvement of the lives of our city's residents," he said.
Mashaba says he wants to create a business environment, which will allow people to stand on their own feet and not have to look to government the whole time.
