Mashaba seeks meeting with new NPA boss

City of Joburg Executive Mayor, Herman Mashaba, wants urgent
discussions with newly appointed National Director of Public Prosecutions,
Shamila Batohi.

Mashaba wants Batohi to investigate the City’s corruption cases that he maintains the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) failed to prosecute.
Spokesperson in the office of the Mayor, Luyanda Mfeka, says the meeting is set to inform Batohi of the City’s long list of corruption cases and seek her intervention to ensure the law is upheld without fear or favour.
“Some of them include the case of Mbali McClare who is set to have defrauded the city of R500 million,” says Mfeka.
McClare allegedly undervalued 22 properties in the city, according to the City of Joburg investigation team. The case was withdrawn by the NPA late last month.
He adds other cases include former MMC of Housing, Dan Bovu, who allegedly sold state land to vulnerable people.
“And now has new allegations of him bribed witnesses, in order to prevent the case from going forward.”
