Mashatile: Eskom needs to appoint competent, skilled CEO
Updated | By Makhosazane Twala
ANC treasurer-general Paul Mashatile says South Africa cannot afford Eskom to be an enemy of the people.

Mashatile spoke during an ANC Gauteng’s Special Provincial General Council on Wednesday.
The ANC deputy presidential hopeful’s remarks came hours after news broke of the resignation of Eskom CEO André de Ruyter.
Mashatile says the government should appoint an Eskom boss with the necessary skills and ability to cooperate with the board.
“What we need to do as government is to bring a man that is competent to take over. But that person will not succeed if they do not work with the board, they won’t succeed if they don’t work with the communities.
“Eskom cannot become the enemy of a people. We need to change this, and Eskom needs to become a friend of our people. We want friendship we want to work together so we can fix this problem.”
