Updated | By Makhosazane Twala
Eskom will implement stage 4 load shedding from 5am on Thursday until 5am on Sunday.
The struggling power utility will then futher ease the planned power cuts to stage 3 from Sunday.
Eskom says five power stations have been taken offline for repairs since Tuesday.
“In addition, the delay in returning to service a generating unit each at Arnot, Duvha and Hendrina power stations has contributed to the capacity constraints.
"A generating unit each at Grootvlei, Camden, Kriel, Majuba power stations returned to service. We currently have 6 618MW on planned maintenance, while another 15 996MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns.
The latest power alert came hours after news broke of Eskom CEO André de Ruyter resignation from the state-owned entity.
He is due to stay on at the power utility until March 2023 while government searches for a successor.
