Mashatile hints load shedding ‘may be resolved this year’
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Deputy President Paul Mashatile believes there is a possibility that the government may be able to solve the load shedding crisis before the end of the year.

This is not the first time senior politicians have promised a swift end to the ongoing power crisis, with ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula previously promising that load shedding would be gone by December 2023.
On Tuesday, Eskom announced that it would ramp up load shedding to stage 3 following the loss of three generating units.
Mashatile made the remarks during a question and answer session on Tuesday in the National Council of Provinces.
"In the long run, load shedding itself will be sorted out and be a thing of the past. You will be surprised that we may resolve the problem as early as this year,” he told MPs.
"I won’t give you the details now, but we are getting there. It will be something of the past," he said
Meanwhile, President Cyril Ramaphosa said the government was making progress in attempts to keep the lights on.
He addressed the South Africa-Ghana Business Forum at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg.
"Load shedding events are becoming shorter and shorter. This has also been confirmed by our business partners, whom I meet from time to time.
"They are seeing a great improvement in the incidents of load shedding that are getting shorter and shorter. We are making progress; we did say that load shedding is a big challenge."
