Massive new sinkhole closes Centurion streets
Updated | By Lulutho Mkosi
A massive new sinkhole emerged at an intersection in Centurion on Monday.
Centurion ward councillor David Farquharson says the sinkhole, on the corner of Clifton Avenue and Potgieter Road, measures 12 by 17 metres and is 8 metre deep.
“The sinkhole formed early on Monday morning and the electricity pole fell into the sinkhole, the school in the corner’s fence has sunk into the hole and water was cut off,” he says.
“There were no injuries reported and there was no accident but because the sinkhole is big the road is going to be closed and will be closed until sinkhole is repaired.”
Farquharson says they are already in talks with Tshwane Mayor Stevens Mokgalapa for the metro to provide money to fix the sinkhole.
