Updated | By Karabo Tebele
Limpopo Premier Stan Mathabatha has announced the allocation of R57.5 million to provide relief to farmers hit by Covid-19.
Mathabatha delivered his State of the Province Address in Lebowakgomo outside Polokwane on Thursday.
He told MPLs that the fund will ensure food security.
"We have since allocated an amount of R57.5 million rand to fund farmers support relief program. We believe that this package will help support farmers and mitigate the impact of Covid-19 on agricultural production.
"This will also contribute towards food security in the province. Our projections are that this funding will bring relief to over one thousand farmers in the province."
Mathabatha said R1.2 billion has also been set aside to aid livestock farmers.
"The support is in the form of production input to enable them to continue with production covering areas such as livestock feed and medication, seedling, fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, and soil correction."
