The wife of former Limpopo premier Cassel Mathale, Mokgadi Kgohloane, has appeared in the Maake Magistrate's Court for alleged fraud and illegal mining, the Hawks said on Wednesday.
Kgohloane and four others are all directors of Bathlabine Brickworks, which is accused of carrying out mining despite its permit having expired.
"The five were arrested yesterday [Tuesday] and appeared in court," said Hawks spokesman Captain Paul Ramaloko. He said police received the information through a whistleblower.
Police carried out a joint investigation with the departments of energy and environmental affairs.
"We went to investigate...and they could not produce the permit," said Ramaloko.
The case was postponed to November 4, and all five were released on a warning.
