Updated | By Nokukhanya N Mntambo
Tshwane South was named the top performing district in the country for 2021.
Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga announced the matric results in Auckland Park on Thursday.
The overall pass rate increased to 74.6% from 74.2% - this is a growth of 0.2%.
The Classes of 2020 and 2021 produced the best results of quality in the history of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams.
Motshekga lauded the cohort of pupils for making the most of their schooling, even in the face of adversity.
The Free State produced the highest pass rate by province, while Tshwane South produced the highest pass rate by district.
Two districts, both in Limpopo, attained pass rates lower than 60%; ten districts performed between 60% and 69.9%; 37 districts performed between 70% and 79%; and 26 districts performed at 80% and above.
“It is important to observe that among the 75 education districts in our country, the top 10 districts are in 3 provinces – four each from the Free State and Gauteng; and two from the Western Cape,” said Motshekga.
“More impressively, all of the top ten districts, performed above 84%.”
