Matric exams: DBE says papers printed, sent to provinces

The Department of Basic Education says everything is in place as it gears up for the final matric exams.
The Class of 2024 will start writing exams on Monday, 21 October, with English and Afrikaans as first papers.
The department’s spokesperson, Elijah Mhlanga, said the question papers have already been printed and sent to provinces.
“We have checked all the required logistics, and we are confident that all is ready for the exam season. We are just finalising some last-minute checks with our provinces.”
On 18 October, matriculants will sign a pledge promising to follow the exam rules and report any contraventions they become aware of.
“We want to encourage our matriculants to adhere to a clean examination, free from cheating and irregularities so that we can proceed with the finalisation of the results,” Mhlanga said.
More than 800,000 pupils are expected to sit for this year’s exams.
“The Department of Basic Education is confident in its ability to successfully administer the 2024 National Senior Certificate examinations,” Mhlanga said.
