Mbalula: ‘ANC didn’t send anyone to be corrupt’
Updated | By Neo Motloung
The African National Congress (ANC) elections head Fikile Mbalula, has had strong words for party’s members implicated in the damning forensic report on VBS Mutual Bank.
The forensic report by advocate Terry Motau, entitled “The Great Bank Heist”, reveals how the bank was looted by individuals and high-ranking politicians.
The African National Congress (ANC) Limpopo treasurer Danny Msiza is described as the kingpin who facilitated bribes between municipal officials and the bank.
The report also implicates former ANC Limpopo Youth League leader Kabelo Matsepe as a remunerated middleman who acted as a gatekeeper between VBS and municipalities.
The report says Matsepe benefitted to the tune of at least R35 million.
Mbalula says the party has started acting against those implicated in the report.
“Head will roll, as to when is a matter of time,” Mbalula told reporters.
Speaking the party’s headquarters in Johannesburg, Mbalula said those implicated in the collapse of the bank must face the full might of the law.
“Because the ANC did not send anyone to be corrupt. It didn’t as an organisation say go and be corrupt on our behalf. People who are corrupt are corrupt o their own.”
Mbalula described the looting of VBS as devastating for the poorest of the poor..
“When we take about the advancement of the poor and their empowerment this is a total let down.”
