Mbete praises Thuli Madonsela at gala
Updated | By Samkele Maseko
The office of the Public Protector celebrated 20 years of existence at a gala dinner in Boksburg Thursday night.
Former office bearers praised the out-going Public Protector, Advocate Thuli Madonsela, for her sterling performance.
Advocate Madonsela's predecessors, Advocate Lawrence Mushwana and Advocate Selby Baqwa congratulated her on a job well done.
National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete also praised Madonsela - despite her Nkandla-findings that implicated many in the current administration.
Madonsela was ridiculed by several parliamentarians.
Mbete, however, said the noise generated in the public is necessary, because it deepens a vibrant democracy.
"Sometimes the noise in the public domain can be very confusing, but the truth of the matter is sometimes we need those bumps, those knocks. We need that noise, because it keeps us alert. It makes us think and, therefore, it even deepens the quality of the relationships in what we do in the service of our people," she said.
