Mboweni to lift lid on govt economic plans as he tables mini budget

All eyes will be on Finance Minister Tito Mboweni when he tables the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement in the National Assembly on Wednesday.
The minister had, earlier this month, asked for a week's delay in the tabling of the mini budget, which raised concern in some quarters about the country's financial plans.
Economist Mike Schussler says people want to know how deep the GDP percentage hole is, how much we can spend as well as taxes.
He says it will be interesting to hear how government plans to support our ailing economy and where money will be spent.
"I think we should be spending less on the salaries and more on the services the government provides, they should be spending more on books and medicine but that's going to be a difficult thing to achieve because our salary bill is so high already.
"I think we will likely to find the government structure is not going to get as much money as one would hope. Salaries are also going to come under scrutiny, it's not going to be a simple solution there will be tax increases.”
