Mbuyiseni Ndlozi not a suspect in penthouse rape, says Gauteng police

Police have strongly denied media reports claiming Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) MP Mbuyiseni Ndlozi is a suspect in a rape case.

This comes after the Daily Sun published an article where a woman came forward with damning allegations against Ndlozi.

According to the paper, the pair met at a party at an upmarket penthouse in Sandton on Friday.

The woman claims the man introduced himself at Quinton and only learnt after the ordeal that it was the EFF’s Ndlozi.

It’s understood she reported the incident to police.

But spokesperson Mathapelo Peters denies Ndlozi is a suspect in the case.

“The management of the SAPS in Gauteng has noted with worry, a news article in the Daily Sun published on 11 April 2021, wherein Economic Freedom Fighters leader Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi is accused of rape,” said Peters.

“We can confirm that the case of rape that is in reference was indeed opened and is under investigation. While police are not at liberty to disclose or confirm identities of victims/complainants and suspects, we can further confirm that Dr Ndlozi is not a suspect in this case.”

She added the publication was asked to verify the facts before going to print.

“Police hereby place it on record that the reporter behind this article in reference has not sought the comment of the Gauteng Provincial Head of Corporate Communication on this matter even after he was advised to do so," said Peters.

“Instead, Amos Mananyetso went ahead and published his story based on, according to the article, the victim's statement, a legal and confidential document that can only have been obtained through unlawful and unethical means."

The red berets have also come out in full support of Ndlozi.

“The Daily Sun, which is under News24 and Koos Bekker’s stable of racist and establishment media deliberately defamed Commissar Dr. Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, knowing very well that not even an withdrawal of the article will lessen the damage done to his reputation,” it said in a statement.

“In this regard, the EFF will fully support the legal action against the Daily Sun for deliberately defaming Commissar Dr. Mbuyiseni Ndlozi through illegally acquired documents.”

The EFF further accused President Cyril Rampahosa of having a hand in the false claims.

“We send a very strong caution to the sitting President and his hunting dogs that we will fight with everything in our power to counter the unlawful and below the belt methods to fight political battles.

“We caution the sitting President because we are fully aware that attempts to destroy the integrity of the EFF and its leadership is done to protect Cyril Ramaphosa and his faction which exists to please white people.

“The sitting Government and the ruling party must caution their hunting dogs to stop using false allegations of GBV and rape to fight narrow political and factional battles.”
