Mchunu made the promise after unknown gunmen shot dead seven members of the same family, including three children, in an execution-style killing in their home on Wednesday night.

A five-year-old boy was among those killed in the shooting, while the eldest victim was a woman aged about 55.

The motive for the attack is not yet known

In a statement released on Friday, Mchunu said that while the circumstances behind the shooting are still under investigation, there are suspicions of family feuds or business-related tensions.

"These murders were senseless, inhumane, and callous and have left an entire community reeling. We will spare no effort in bringing the culprits to justice, and we have already made headway in our investigations.

“I want to assure the family and the public that all resources will be mobilised to ensure that those responsible are held accountable and the safety of the people of Highflats is restored.”
