Members of 'Rolex Gang' arrested
Updated | By Nathan Daniels
Police have arrested three members of the so-called 'Rolex Gang'.
An intelligence-driven operation by Gauteng police led to the arrest of the three suspects on Tuesday afternoon.
Police apprehended them, while they were traveling in a hijacked vehicle on the R25 in Modderfontein on the East Rand.
According to national police spokesperson, Brenda Muridili, various law enforcement agencies monitored the gang's activities.
"When the suspects realised that they had been cornered, they started shooting at the team and police responded. Three suspects were arrested at the scene; one sustained injuries during the shootout."
A vehicle, guns with ammunition and other items believed to be stolen goods were confiscated.
Muridili could not confirm whether the suspects are linked to a robbery that took place at a jewellery store at the Menlyn Mall in Pretoria last week.
