The SACMCC held a virtual press briefing on Tuesday, where it spoke on the way forward after President Cyril Ramaphosa gave the green light for the resumption of religious gatherings.

Under level 3, all churches will be allowed to resume services with no more than 50 worshippers at a time.

SACMCC chairperson Nhlanhla Ggcwabaza says its church members have implemented the necessary measures to accommodate those who will not be able to join the congregation.

“On the 4th Industrial Revolution, as we see that the whole world is moving towards that direction, we have put measures in place to assist our churches in terms of the broadcasting and portal, as well as the church management system,” he said.

Most churches have welcomed President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement on the unbanning of churches.

However South Africa’s biggest church the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) has confirmed that its doors will remain closed for now.

Ggcwabaza says not all their churches will open.

“Under us, some of the churches are going back some of our churches are not going back. As I said before each branch holds about 1000 people, those churches that are big have said they will observe the situation and see what will happen. We will use the broadcast and live streaming for them.”
