Metro cop appears in court on rape charge

The officer appeared in the Dobsonville Magistrate's Court on Monday where the matter was postponed to May 27 for a formal bail application, Ipid spokesperson Moses Dlamini said.
The alleged rape happened last week Thursday.
"Apparently the girl... and a friend were called to this policeman's house, which is about three houses away from hers," Dlamini said.
"He said he wanted to relax and have a few beers. The girl was offered alcohol, she tried to drink but she somehow wanted to vomit after she drank the alcohol."
Dlamini said the teenager's friend then left, but she was not worried about being left alone with him because she knew the officer.
The policeman allegedly started undressing her and raped her and she ran out into the street to call for help.
The girl was taken to the police station.
Confronted
"The suspect was confronted by members of the community but he said he was going to hand himself over to police," Dlamini said.
"When he went to the police station he found the girl there already. She pointed him out and he was arrested."
The 16-year-old's mother spoke to Eyewitness News on Tuesday about the incident and said the family trusted the man, who was accused of luring her daughter into his home and spiking her drink.
She said the officer's family visited them following the incident and tried to negotiate an agreement in order to protect their son’s future.
The mother said her daughter would have to live with what happened for the rest of her life.
